Managing the Unknown..

Take your giant basket of assumptions and bring them out in the wild world. And if you are the brave one, take a dip into the underwolrd.
When fumbling in the unknown, use what you got: your assumptions on which you make up your reality. This is not an easy thing to do.
I once talked to a client who said he was considering moving to his wife's hometown after having lost his job. But he was vrtywin it wouldny happen - it surely would be "too much for him".
So I used two of my favourite techniques, I have actually taken them from the old and classic but oh so relevant subject of rhetoric (thanks, Aristole!)
It goes like this:
1) Define it
2) Prove it
I first asked him to define "too much".
"What is too much for you?" I responded. He could only respond with fleeting emotions in the present moment. Ehm, how does that connect to the possibility of moving to another city? It's a feeling. They are not rational.
And then I asked him to prove his statements." How do you know it will be too much for you?"
I didn't tell him this but I concluded he has already made up his mind - he had already decided
